nolita cantina, liverpool

i’ve recently celebrated my birthday (and am still celebrating to be honest!) and there was only one thing on my mind – i wanted to eat, and i wanted to eat well.

with a trip to liverpool all booked in, the question of where we would go to eat quickly arose, but was answered just as quickly. finding many of our locations over the weekend via twitter, nolita cantina became a bit of a must do after seeing some snaps of what they had to offer.

only taking bookings for parties over 6, which seems to be becoming more common, we went in at 8pm. there was a 45 minute wait, but after a massive lunch elsewhere, we weren’t too bothered by this – there are plenty of bars in the area! leaving our name and number, we went for a drink until the phone call came through.

2013-12-07 20.48.23by the time we were seated, it had emptied out a bit, but there was still a great atmosphere.

it’s hard to not be overfaced by a menu somewhere like this; where everything looks delicious and you could happily order any number of items.

after some fairly intense debate, we ordered mini corn dogs and buffalo chicken blasters to start.

2013-12-07 21.07.41the corn dogs seemed a bit big for a starter, but the light batter meant that it actually wasn’t too filling, and the perfect amount to share between two. the buffalo chicken blasters combined plenty of my favourite things (pastry, chicken, cheese – done) and, when dipped into blue cheese dressing, were on another level!

2013-12-07 21.23.10my main of beef brisket was served up bushtrucker style – hey, it is a cantina after all! the meat and dr.pepper bbq sauce were both great, soft and sweet, but balanced by the crunchy slaw and rocket salad. this was exactly what i had in mind for my celebration meal!

2013-12-07 21.23.17apologies for the photography, but the boyfriend’s pulled pork plate was piled high with tender meat, regular and sweet potato fries, and bbq beans. the dish was supposed to come with 2 potato latkes but unfortunately they had run out, though they more than made up for it with the portion of fries.
